Paddling Itineraries on the Susquehanna River

Watsontown to Lewisburg Paddle

Start your journey at the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) Watsontown access point that is off Dickson Avenue. At the Watsontown put-in there is a parking lot at the end of Park Road which is just off Dickson Avenue. As you paddle downriver the landscape is dominated by forests, farm fields, historic bridges and wildlife that includes eagles, waterfowl, and songbirds. This trip includes an optional break at Milton State Park, an island park on the Susquehanna River, around mile 4.5 in your trip. To reach Milton State Park you must paddle to the left side of the island (look for channel on river left) to reach the boat launch that is located under the bridge. Milton State Park has day use facilities, and the island is suitable for hiking on a network of walking trails around the whole island. If you decide not to stop at Milton State Park, then you can navigate around the island on either the right or left. As you continue down river you will pass more farm fields, a small island, and a historic railroad bridge that will be an indicator that the George Street take-out is approaching. Be sure to keep an eye out for the eagles that like to perch on the bridge. The take-out will be river right after you pass under the route 45 bridge.

You can also extend this segment by continuing past Lewisburg to the Fence Drive-In restaurant where you can stop for a fish sandwich, fries and a thick creamy milkshake!

Isle of Que Loop

This loop around Boy Scout Island is a shorter paddle that’s great for a morning jaunt or early evening excursion after work. It offers a little bit of a workout with some stretches of upriver paddling and it almost guarantees a chance to see some wildlife. This route is an upriver paddle for the first half-mile, a long leisurely stretch downriver for the next 1.2 miles, then upriver again back to the boat launch for the last mile.
