Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, which makes us wonder…when you think of a “perfect date experience” what makes your heart go pitter patter?
If you’re like me, an intimate and satisfying meal in a cozy setting is enough to fill my heart any time of year, but especially in the dreary winter months.
Here are our top recommendations for memorable (and romantic) meals in the SRV:
Isabella Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge is truly the best of the best Italian restaurant in downtown Selinsgrove.

Located in a former bank building, the setting is upscale, romantic, and stylish – with fun surprising twists. What’s not to love about having a vividly colored cocktail in a bank vault bar?!
The menu is expansive and we’re happy to report that the service will not disappoint either. When you dine here, you’ll feel appreciated and welcome – every time. Isabella Restaurant is a unique dining experience that will be memorable and very Instagram-worthy!
1919 at the SV Country Club in Shamokin Dam is a hidden gem in the SRV. With a new name and a new chef, now is the perfect time to try
this dining establishment. While you do need to be a member of the Country Club to golf here, you don’t need a membership to dine in their restaurant (now you know!), which is open to the public for lunch and dinner (Tuesdays-Saturdays 11 a.m.-9 p.m.).
Their menu, including Happy Hour specials from 4-6 p.m., and their impeccable service will definitely make you feel like you’re a country club member! Their website lists an up-to-date listing of current promotions, including Two Can Dine for $30 nights and live music schedules. Their menu isn’t as large as Isabella’s but they do offer a number of appetizers, sandwiches, steaks, and seafood options. While you’re there, don’t forget to slow down and take a look around the Susquehanna River Valley – the panoramic views from this venue are breathtaking day or night.
The Banty Rooster, on Route 45 just outside of Lewisburg, is a lovely choice for a date day or date night – since they too offer lunch and dinner options.

This is a more casual and informal option – perfect for an impromptu date while you’re out exploring or shopping. Banty Rooster, formerly Ard’s Farm, has always been known for their carefully-crafted plates, made from farm fresh ingredients. After your meal, browse their market for a special sweet treat to take home – their candy offerings are very nostalgic!
They are open for breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

The current owner and chef, Justin Ard came to Ard’s in 2008 (he’s Kyle and Alan’s oldest son). He said, “I love what I do here, the ability to push the envelope and try new things. I love being able to take a classic homestyle dish and elevate it to something surprising and fun. The look on peoples’ faces when we set a beautiful chicken caprese or a jacked-up chicken and waffles, it’s fun for me to watch.”
During Chef Justin’s career at Ard’s he has been recognized locally, and not so locally, for his amazing talent and intense drive for success.
As their website says and we can attest, “Our roots are in agriculture and farming – giving us a unique perspective on food: how to grow it, how to cook it, and how to serve it.”
Don’t forget to leave room for dessert!
Boondocks Woodfired Grill in Sunbury offers delicious seafood, burgers, and lobster rolls, and is
known for having gluten-free and vegetarian options. The atmosphere is peaceful and has a chill vibe, making it ideal for a laid-back date night.
They have a mouthwatering Valentine’s Day menu posted online but any other day they offer a large menu of appetizers, burgers, steaks, and featured entrees. They also have a burger of the week special, pasta night, and taco night weekly.
You can expect great service in a clean, well-managed restaurant that boasts one of my favorite seating options – high-backed booths that are both private and comfy.
Yes, El Torito Mexican Restaurant in Shamokin Dam offers “standard Mexican fare” – but don’t let the name fool you!
Their amazing homemade chips and salsa, generous portions, and refreshing margaritas (even on a weeknight!) will make you fall in love all over again!
Open daily, they offer Happy Hour from 3-5 p.m. every day with a wide variety of imported beers and featured cocktails that are both memorable and photo-worthy.
Don’t overlook this amazing family-owned (and yes, family-friendly) restaurant in the SRV! You’ll find authentic pork, chicken, seafood, and beef dishes, but they also have fun specials like Taco Fiesta, Burrito California, and Texas Quesadilla – and a bar menu that will boggle your mind.
Fuji Steakhouse, off of Route 15 in Lewisburg offers a well-stocked menu of Japanese, Chinese, and Thai food. If you’re in the mood for beautifully-crafted sushi or a traditional Hibachi experience, this is the place! This is the ideal place for several couples to dine, as you can be seated together and have a fun experience together.
The Heritage Restaurant and Pub offers a world-class experience in the heart of downtown Shamokin.
Owners Edward and Wendy Manning work to set a tone of excellence in every aspect of the restaurant –
from the service cast, to the chef, cooks and dishwashers – every single person matters to them and it shows from the warm greeting, to the table service, to the cleanliness throughout the establishment.
Learn more about the owners’ philosophy in this wonderful video produced by Stone State Entertainment.
As you enter the establishment, take some time to view the coal-themed, historical mural on the side of the building. Speaking of murals, downtown Shamokin has half a dozen murals to view after your
meal; read more about them in this blog post.
Chef Erik Dressler was born and raised in Shamokin, then graduated Culinary School in San Diego and developed his skills in restaurants in the San Diego and Seattle regions before returning to his hometown of Shamokin.
As their website says, “Chef Erik has created a diverse and fresh menu, utilizing his vast experience, his love of Bar-B-Que and Asian Cuisine all while giving a strong nod to the dishes and flavors of the Coal Region. Chef truly delights in making just about everything on the menu fresh and from scratch including our very own dressings and sauces. Bon Appetite!"
