Cooler nights and crisp early mornings mean one thing – fall has arrived. It’s time to open the windows and take a deep breath.
If you’re looking for fall-themed activities that will remind you of just how wonderful it is to live in the Susquehanna River Valley, you’ve come to the right place!
Local Farms Offering Fall Fun
The Susquehanna River Valley, which includes Snyder, Union, and Northumberland Counties, offers so many farm-fresh opportunities in the fall, you could visit a different destination every weekend throughout September and October.
Don’t forget to charge your phone, because ample photo opps abound at all of these locations!
Banty Rooster at Ard's Farm
Ard's Farm has been well-known for family-friendly fall festivities for decades. Now owned by third-generation Justin and Leah Midkiff, the fall traditions continue, including a pumpkin patch, corn maze with fun themed events in the maze, plus a candy store, soda bar, and on-site restaurant with outdoor seating. Come hungry and leave happy at this longstanding family establishment.
Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm
If you’ve ever met Stan Kohl, you know that he loves keeping traditions alive year after year, for the benefit of his friends and neighbors. The business is known for Christmas festivities – fresh cut trees, 100,000 ornaments of every theme and variety, and the largest collection of Christmas tree stands in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
But Kohl’s also does fall in a big way! Kohl’s hosts a massive corn maze, plus dozens of lawn games like checkers, jenga, rope maze, twister, connect four, kerplunk, and a dozen more – all to challenge your physical and mental skills.
Wear comfy shoes and dress in layers – the maze covers a 7-acre area with a total of 3.6 miles of trails, including a main trail and a short trail.
Insider tip: don’t miss the scenic lookout in the maze – this is a fun area to stop on a hot day to rest and rehydrate (especially if you’re visiting with little ones).
Green’s Fruit Farm
For family-friendly apple picking, Green’s is a must-visit! Owned by Bobby and Sara Hricko, Green’s offers 35 different apple varieties along with peaches, some plums, cherries, and pears. In the September, they offer u-pick apple and pumpkin picking and horse-drawn carriage rides (for a fee) on Saturdays. They commonly have Gala, Honeycrisp and McIntosh for u-pick and the apple trees are low enough to the ground that even little ones can participate.
At their nearby farm stand, they offer already-picked apples in small and large quantities – mix a few varieties of apples and make homemade apple sauce. Freeze it in bags and enjoy fall freshness in the blustery winter months. You can thank us later.

North Hill Orchard & Supply
North Hill Orchard & Supply is tucked away in the rolling hills of Winfield (the perfect opportunity to open the car windows and take in the sights and smells of our picturesque countrysides). This family-run farm is bursting with seasonal charm: think hayrides to pick apples, peaches, pears, and pumpkins, colorful sunflower fields, and yard games. As if that’s not enough, visitors can also maneuver remote control boats around a pond, check out an escape room, get lost in a corn maze, or try out the apple sling.
Want to pick your own? They typically have Honey Crisp, Gala, Fuji, Ginger Gold, Macintosh, Paula Red, Cortland, and Smokehouse apples.
They also have a farm market brimming with fresh fruit, cider, slushies, mums, whoopie pies, and fall treats like BBQ and donuts, making it the perfect stop for a day of autumn fun for all ages.
