The 21 students live in the Benton and Southern Columbia School Districts. They ranged in age from second grade to seniors in high school. All of the computers were donated to MePush by local community members and businesses.
"We gave away every computer that we collected and we already have a waiting list for the next time," said Michael Levan of MePush.
He continues, "What's so great about this effort is that it redeploys usable computer equipment back into the community instead of sending it to landfills. Much of the computer equipment that we collect is perfectly useable; it just needs a little TLC to bring it back to life. To these kids, these are new computers that will inspire them to do great things this school year."
More computer towers, monitors, and cables are still needed. Community members are encouraged to drop off their computer equipment at either MePush Office: 1210 Market Street in Lewisburg or 240 Market Street, Suite 203 in Bloomsburg. Monetary donations are also accepted to assist in this effort.
"Our goal is to give away another 100 computers on Christmas Eve, and we'll do it with the community's help," said Conor Quinlan, CEO of MePush.
