January 20th - February 6th, 2022

On April 3rd, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spent his last night on Earth in room 306 of the Lorraine Motel. This fictional account of that final evening explores the man behind the legend, and takes us on a journey we'll never forget. Winner of the Laurence Olivier Awards for best new play of 2010.

BTE’s The Mountaintop is set in Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis during the evening of
April 3, 1968. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was staying there that night, and he would be assassinated on its balcony the following day. Playwright Katori Hall takes this historic date with destiny and weaves a powerful imagined conversation between Dr. King and Camae, a hotel maid who is more than she appears, prompting him to examine his past, his legacy, and the plight and future of African Americans. Hall depicts Dr. King as a real man with human foibles who inspired millions to think, to hope, and to move toward a momentous societal shift for equality and justice. BTE is thrilled to be
collaborating with Guest Director Casaundra Freeman, and Guest Actors Will Bryson and Adaeze Nwoko in the roles of Dr. King and Camae.

This production of The Mountaintop also includes a conversation with the cast and guests after the 3pm show on January 30th. The performances begin at 7:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 3:00pm.
