Lincoln Caverns & Whisper Rocks, near Huntingdon and Raystown Lake, will reopen daily for cavern tours on Saturday, May 30. Lincoln Caverns was forced to close its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 20. Under Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s plan to reopen Pennsylvania, the Caverns will join the other businesses of Huntingdon County in welcoming guests back in a safe and strategic manner.

Our goal is to work together to stay healthy and safe, while enjoying a positive cavern experience.Lincoln Caverns’ staff has worked hard to put together a manageable COVID-19 operating plan and looks forward to resuming daily operations and welcoming guests back to Pennsylvania’s family-friendly cave,” said Patricia Ann Dunlavy, President and General Manager of Lincoln Caverns, Inc.
Some of the new safety precautions include:
  • A dedicated cleaning and sanitizing crew has been established to clean and disinfect all high touch surfaces in the visitors center, at the sluice, and in the picnic pavilions.
  • New hand sanitizer stations have been installed and sanitizer is available throughout the visitors’ center.
  • Cavern tour capacity will be limited, to maximize the distance between families, at all times during the tour.Although due to the natural cavern environment, there are areas where social distancing of six feet may be impossible.
  • Cavern departure times will be at ½ hour intervals to allow more spacing between tours and to eliminate passing tours in the caverns as much as possible.
  • Masks will be required to enter the Visitors’ Center and inside the caverns.Paper masks are available for guests without their own.Masks are not required for children under 2.
  • Due to the hand railings in the caverns, all guests taking the tour will be provided with non-latex disposable gloves for the tour.
  • All staff members will be provided with the appropriate personal protective equipment and have their temperatures checked upon arrival for their shift.
  • We encourage guests to take personal responsibility for their own health and safety when visiting, by following directions and suggestions of the staff and by making good choices.

Cavern tour tickets will soon be available online and guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance due to limited tour capacities.The Visitors Center will be open daily 9 AM – 5 PM, with tours leaving on the hour and half-hour, 10 AM – 5 PM.Visitors are treated to an interpretive tour through two spectacular crystal caverns, Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks.Always a pleasant 52°, tours can be enjoyed anytime, rain or shine.
Although advance ticket sales are encouraged, reservations are not required to experience this unique underground environment.During the leisurely walk through the two caverns guests of all ages enjoy exploring winding passageways and splendid rooms surrounded by the widest variety of speleothems, or cave formations, in Pennsylvania.Professional cavern interpreters share the fascinating story of the geology and discovery of the caverns.

 

Lincoln Caverns specializes in educational programs for schools, Scouts, and other organized groups. Package tours for 2020 include Geo Packs for schools and youth groups, Ultimate Underground Birthdays, and complete badge programs for Scouts featuring a variety of activity choices, including “An Introduction To Speleology” pre-tour program, ‘Geoworks’ hands-on workshops, panning for real gems, and overnight programs in the learning center. Lincoln Caverns’ indoor learning center makes programming possible year-round, regardless of the weather.


The summer season at Lincoln Caverns features great family events, beginning with National Caves & Karst Day on Saturday, June 6.TEN ($10) for PENN tickets for all and free craft activities for the children are highlights of the day. Kids Cave Kamp offers five ½ days of caves and karst learning and fun. Free-Kid Fridays return on June 12 and 19. Lincoln Caverns celebrates 90 years of discovery June 27 & 28 with the Annual Discovery Days Celebration, featuring special historic tours and free workshops for guests of all ages. All Discovery Day tickets will be offered for $9 in honor of Lincoln Caverns’ 90
th anniversary!

Weekly events include Fun Day Mondays with half-price gem panning. T-Rex Tuesdays features fossil and dinosaur workshops, ½ price fossil panning and photo ops and gifts from T-Rex.Every summer Wednesday is Grandparent’s Day. Black Light Adventure Tours are offered Wednesday evenings and Thursday evenings are Family Fun Nights.New this summer are Baturday Saturdays with Lincoln Caverns’ own mascot, Echo the Bat and bat workshops for bat lovers of all ages.
Whether traveling with a family or an organized group, Lincoln Caverns offers informal, personalized tours, plus various other experiences, making the visit a memorable one. Warrior Ridge Campground, picnic pavilions, nature trails, gem panning, and Raystown Rocks, the area’s largest rock, souvenir and gift shop, are also located on the premises.
