WSO Thrills & Triumph

Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 7:30 PM

“The music of the people is like a rare and lovely flower growing amidst encroaching weeds.” – Dvorak

A feisty overture, a virtuosic and intriguing

flute concerto give room to the grand finale of another exciting season. The passionate, melancholic at times

and exuberant Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky has all the perfect ingredients to be called a masterpiece! The famous haunting melody of the beginning will develop into a triumphant one after going through so many fantastic transformations that you will want to ask for more at the end of the piece!

Reuben Councill, our principal Flautist, will be featured in the Flute Concerto.

Carnival Overture …………………………… A. Dvorak

Flute Concerto ……………………………….. Christopher Rouse

     with Reuben Councill, soloist

Symphony No. 5 …………………………….. P. I. Tchaikovsky

Steep Canyon Rangers
Friday, November 6, 2020 at 7:30 PM

With OUT IN THE OPEN, Steep Canyon Rangers affirm their place as one of the most versatile and idiosyncratic bands in all of contemporary American music. The GRAMMY® Award-winning, North Carolina-based sextet has spent nearly two decades bending and shaping the bluegrass aesthetic, wedding it to elements of pop, country, folk rock, and more to create something original and all their own. OUT IN THE OPEN is perhaps Steep Canyon Rangers’ bravest excursion thus far, transcending bluegrass while in many ways getting closest to the genre’s true form thanks to producer Joe Henry’s very traditional approach towards recording.
