Bloomsburg Children’s Museum Announces January 2022 Programs

The Bloomsburg Children’s Museum, 2 West 7th Street, is open Monday through Saturday 10 am – 4 pm.


Winter Wednesday’s
Every Other Wednesday; 10-12:00 p.m.
January 5th: Animal Hibernation
January 19th: Snow Flakes
Enjoy a special winter-themed craft every other Wednesday from 10-12:00 p.m. with free adult admission.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Saturday, January 8th, 11-12:00 p.m.
Join our special guests Hawk Mountain Sanctuary to get an up-close and personal look at one of their educational falcons. You will learn about natural history, falcon identification, and migration information. Included with Museum admission.

Homeschool Hangouts
Every Other Wednesday; 11-1:00 p.m.; January 12th-April 20th

January 26th: DNA Discoveries
Parent and child led activities designed to complement concepts taught in homeschool curriculum, grades K-12. Discounted admission for homeschool families ($5/person)

This Day in History: The First Superbowl
Saturday, January 15th, 10-12:00 p.m.
On January 15th, 1967, the first Super Bowl was played in Los Angles, California. Learn a fun fact about the Green Bay Packers quarterback and about the man who the Super Bowl trophy is named after. Join us for football crafts! Included with Museum admission

7th Annual Children’s Museum Competitive Science Fair
Thursday, January 20th, 5-8:00 p.m.
Students in grades 7-12 are invited to enter a project in the science fair which will take place on January 20th. All students receiving first awards will move on to the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Science Fair which takes place in March. Butterflies, LIVE!
Saturday, January 22nd, 10-12:00 p.m.
Join Folk's Farm at the museum in experiencing a live butterfly enclosure. Learn all about the life cycle of these winged beauties with hands-on activities. Included with Museum admission.

Adopt a Cow– January Update
Saturday, January 29th, 10-12:00 p.m.
Join us to learn about our adopted cow, Olive, and our host farm. Included in Museum Admission. The Bloomsburg Children's Museum has "adopted" a cow through Discover Dairy. We will be sharing monthly updates on Olive through social media and emails. *Please note: Olive the calf will not be on-site at the Museum. We will be providing updates through pictures and videos*


Ready, Set, Grow

Have you ever wondered what your child is learning through their play? This program will help you learn why play is important and how to understand it. Infectious Intelligence
Monday, January 3rd, 5-7:00 p.m.
Middle and High School-aged students will design and build tethered robots using engineering design concepts. Robots will be created to compete in a competition. Winter Scene with Rita Millard
Sunday, January 9th or January 23rd; 10-2:00 p.m.
The Friends of the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum invite you to spend a Saturday with Rita Millard to create a winter-themed work of art!. Rita is a member of the North Mountain Art League. She enjoys painting with watercolor and oils to capture the history of landscapes and architecture, as well as floral and nature, and portraits of animals and people. Stories from the Birds’ Nest with Miss Angie

Meet the Masters; Saturdays at 11:30 a.m.
January 15th: Modern Sculpture
This class will dive deep into the world of sculptures. From Jeff Koons to Demien Hirst, we will be learning about some of the most famous modern artists who take everyday objects, ideas, and concepts into 3D works of art. Introduction to 3D Printing with Mantis
Saturday, January 15th; 2-3:30 p.m.
Join the experts from Mantis 3D printers for this introductory session. The class will have an overview of 3D printing technologies – software, hardware and applications. Students will be taught to create a 3D model from scratch and use a Mantis 3D printer to print out the model. You can even bring home the 3D model as a souvenir! Recommended for ages 6+. $12/student. Interactive Art with Makey Makey

Case Study in Sustainable Building with Tom Anderson
Tuesday, January 18th; 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Our instructor Thomas Anderson will take you on his journey of researching, architecting, designing, and building his off-grid home near Bloomsburg. Whether you are dreaming about embarking on such a project or are just interested in how it's done, you can learn from his mistakes and successes and the wisdom he has
gained in the process. Technologies and techniques discussed include passive solar, thermal mass, earth sheltering, stack effect, types of insulation, solar thermal, hydronic radiant heating, root cellar refrigeration, photovoltaic solar panels, wind power, solar tubes, DC appliances, water conservation, landscape considerations, home automation, backup, and redundancy planning, and other topics. Register online at https://bit.ly/bcm-solar

Introduction to Arduino
Saturday, January 29th; 10-12:30 p.m.
This is a hands-on introduction class on physical computing using the popular Arduino microcontroller platform. Students will learn how to put together simple electronic circuits and write programs to create projects that light up, move and make a sound. We will use the Seed Studio Grove Kit for Arduino which is a beginner kit but is expandable and grows with the student. Students keep their Arduino kit ($34.00 value). No experience is necessary.
