Lycoming County Historical Society Taber Museum

May Lectures at the Taber Highlight Floral Design and Beer-Making!

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will be hosting a lecture on “Celebrating Springtime with Flowers” at its Coffee Hour on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 10 am in its Community Room. The Lecture Series is sponsored by the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts.

Rosemary Nevil Holmes will be the guest speaker. She is the owner of “Rosemary’s Thyme” which specializes in floral design. Her shop is located on Peters Alley in Montoursville, the location of the original Nevil’s Flowers where Rosemary’s career began within the family business. The shop celebrated over fifty years of serving area clients’ weddings, funerals, and happy occasions. After a period of retirement, she opened “Rosemary’s Thyme”.  She is currently President of the Montoursville Garden Club.

The lecture will be the third of fourteen lectures throughout the year, combining the Thursday morning Coffee Hours with Sunday afternoon Society Programs. On Sunday, May 16, at 2pm, the Historical Society will feature Tim Yarrington, instructor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. His talk will be “The Piracy of Brewing: How Brewers Exploit Natural Systems for Personal Pleasure and Financial Gain.” The brewing and fermentation science certificate offered by Penn College and taught by Yarrington was recently recognized by the Master Brewers Association of the Americas. It is the only program in the northeast United States and only one of fourteen to receive this designation. The talk is one of several events to highlight the return of the popular Bottles and Brews at the Taber Friday, August 13, 2021.

Although the entire series of lectures is not yet in place, it will focus on historical topics with a few hands-on experiences. The programs are free and open to the public, however, social distancing is enforced and the use of face masks is mandatory.

The Museum is located at 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. Please contact the museum at 570.326.3326 or visit our website for updates on programming at the Museum. Parking is available behind the Museum or on the street.

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society is open for touring on Sundays, 1pm until 4pm, beginning May 2, 2021. It will remain open on Sundays through the end of October. The museum is also open Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:30am until 4:00pm and Saturdays, 11:00am until 4:00pm.
