The Art of Mary Lapos Reception
Reception: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2023 l 1 PM – 4 PM
Art Display: JANUARY 3 - FEBRUARY 25, 2023
Mary Lapos (aka MOTH) is an American Artist and a lifelong resident of central Pennsylvania. She has been creating beautiful art for over 50 years! "From My Studio Window" The Art of Mary Lapos will be on display in the Romberger Gallery from January 3rd to February 25th. A free reception with drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be held on February 11th from 1-4pm in the Olewine Gallery.
For over 50 years Mary Lapos has been creating art on a CREP farm (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) purchased in 1970 by MOTH and her husband Frank. Both were teachers in the Danville area; he for the district and she for IU #16. Their two children are raising their families in the area. One is an administrator at Bloomsburg University, and the other is a veterinarian in private practice. After Frank’s untimely death in 2001, MOTH set up her studio in Frank’s repurposed and refurbished woodworking shop.
MOTH has produced pieces in almost all media and lately is gravitating back to black and white. Watercolor, oils and pastel have been her favorite choices through the years, and 60 percent of her paintings have been sold. She has had numerous one-woman shows in the Susquehanna Valley, including her largest and most far-reaching titled Painting Invisible People, which was featured in such diverse locations as the Harrisburg Commonwealth School of Law and Widener University in Philadelphia. Invisible People was a multimedia show focusing on social justice, gender inequality and generational poverty and discrimination issues in three separate countries: India, Haiti and the United States.
We look forward to your visit at the Ned Smith Center for this wonderful art event!
The Ned Smith Center will be presenting a beautiful and poignant lifetime retrospective of Ned’s 60-year career as an artist which will truly be a celebration of color, light and life. From early watercolor pieces in the 1960’s all the way up to abstract acrylics from 2019, art by Ned Wert will be on display from November 1st to February 18th.

This movement challenges the narrative that history would have us believe about people of color—that their lives, stories, truths, and histories do not matter.
