The work of a Northumberland County artist is featured at Susquehanna University. Chet Davis’ exhibition 21 for 21 is on display at the Blough-Weis Library.

The exhibition is free and open to the public through Oct. 15 and includes 21 figurative paintings completed by Davis in the last few years.

Born in Ashland, Pennsylvania, and now a resident of Paxinos, Davis graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in art education in 1973, and received his master’s degree from the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford, in 1980.

Davis describes his work as “as a way of defining and augmenting emotional and spiritual levels which deal with specific issues that tie into my soul’s desperate concerns for the state of humanity.

“Hence my work has an expressive, figural focus, and often allegorical with personal and universal symbols referring to conditions of life,” he said.

Davis’ work has been exhibited at the Art Association of Harrisburg, Bloomsburg University's Haas Gallery, the Doshi Center for Contemporary Art (Harrisburg), the Erie Museum of Art, Indiana University's Kipp Gallery, the Northumberland County Council for the Arts, the State Museum of Pennsylvania (Harrisburg), the William Ris Gallery (Camp Hill) and the Whitaker Center for Science and Art.

Davis’ work hangs in public and private collections across the country and in England, Holland, Italy and Sweden. His art can also be found in collections of Bloomsburg University, the Hazleton Art League, the Hoagannes Corporation, Mansfield University and Lock Haven University. He has taught art at Alvernia University, Luzerne County Community College and Misericordia University.

The Blough-Weis Library exhibition is open to visitors Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
