Historic Churches & Cemeteries

Buffalo Church
Organized by Presbyterian pioneers, 1773; broken up by Indian raids. Resumed, with first regular pastor, 1787. Log church of about 1775 replaced by stone in 1816 and current brick structure in 1846.

Dry Run Cemetery

Near New Berlin, on the bluff at Penns Creek lay Buffalo Valley's pioneer cemetery. Abandoned 1791 after a generation of use, it held graves of veterans of the French and Indian War and of the Revolution.

Evangelical Church

The first church built by "Albright's People," later the Evangelical Association, was erected in New Berlin in 1816. It was the first Evangelical Church in the United States. The congregation of the Reverend Jacob Albright first met in a stone barn (the Eyer Barn) and elected delegates to the first General Conference of the Evangelical church in 1816.

Warrior Run Church

Named for Indian occupation of the region. Presbyterian landmark. A log church was built in 1789; the present building was erected in 1835. Restored in 1947 by Warrior Run Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, aided by descendants and friends. The annual Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Days Festival is held on the grounds of the church, and a holiday candlelight service is held annually inside the church.
