Theatre, Cinema & Dance Events

April 7, 2018 to August 5, 2018

Millbrook Playhouse

The Board of Directors and Producing Artistic Director, David E. Leidholdt, are proud to launch the Millbrook Playhouse 2018, 55th Anniversary Season, and the excitement will be kicked off with a Disney themed benefit cabaret, WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR on Saturday, April 7th at 7pm.

We are capturing the grandness and the excitement of the 55th Season with our programming and events. And, we are jumping right in with the spectacular family Disney cabaret, which sets the tone for our first musical,“Beauty and the Beast” says Artistic Director David E. Leidholdt.

The 55th Anniversary Season will feature many Millbrook premieres including; DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,  from June 15th to the 30th on the Ryan Mainstage. Other titles for the Anniversary Season include SISTER ACT THE MUSICAL based on the popular Whoopi Goldberg movie. The classic novel set to stage, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. The return of the ladies from Springfield High in THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON, and the recent Broadway smash comedy AN ACT OF GOD, a Saturday Night Live-esque conversation with the big guy himself.

The varied selection of family programming, thought provoking pieces, and beloved comedies ensure everyone will have a chance to “be our guest” and experience Millbrook’s exhilarating, high quality, professional productions.

In tandem with the eight professional productions making up the bulk of Millbrook’s summer season, the theater proudly renews their commitment to theatrical education by launching an innovative introductory theater camp for preschool and kindergarten students alongside their regular theatre camps for kids, teens and adults.

In a time when there are less and less opportunities for young people to find creative outlets, Millbrook goes full steam into another season of quality educational programing. The WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR  benefit concert gives the theater an opportunity to raise the much needed funds to continue our programs and fulfil our mission, ‘to provide quality, professional live theatre and encourage the development and appreciation of the theatre arts with a strong educational component,’ ” says Leidholdt.

This evening of songs, performed by the Millbrook Youth Ensemble and some of your favorite alumni, promises to be a magical night of songs. The cabaret will feature the classic Disney cannon, and ticket sales will raise money for the youth ensemble and educational programs offered during the summer season. WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR will play one-night-only on April 7th at 7pm and is created by Millbrook’s musical mastermind Justin Adams and directed by Artistic Associate Matt Spencer.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. The Academy Award winning film comes to life in this romantic and beloved take on the classic fairytale. RATED G.

When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she's put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with the rigid lifestyle and the uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. RATED PG.

HARPER LEE’S TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD - Directed by David E. Leidholdt

- The classic story brought to life. Adapted by Christopher Sergel.

Performances:  July 20 - July 28

Lawyer Atticus Finch defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel - a man charged with a terrible crime. Through the eyes of Atticus's children, Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unanswering honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930's. This adaptation is a meaningful work of art, and poses several questions that are still relevant to today's society. RATED PG.

I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE  - Directed by Robert W. Schneider

-A hysterical take at relationships in the modern age.  Book & Lyrics by Joe DiPietro, Music by Jimmy Roberts.

Performances: August 3 - 12

This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as 'the relationship.' It takes us on the journey from dating & waiting to love & marriage, then moves on to the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved & lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, 'Say, what are you doing Saturday night?'  RATED PG.

In Poorman Cabaret:

SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY - Directed by Amanda Coffin

-A delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy!  By Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope & Jamie Wooten.

Performances:  June 8 - June 17

Four unique Southern women, all needing to escape their daily routines are drawn together at an impromptu happy hour - and decide it's time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they've lost through the years. Over the course of months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures, and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together, they discover a renewed determination to live in the moment - and realize it's never too late to make new old friends. RATED PG.

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON Directed and Choreographed by Marc de la Concha

- A comedic ride through the ’60s and ’70s! Created by Roger Bean.

Performances: June 22 - July 8

The Wonderettes are back at Springfield High to throw a retirement party for their favorite teacher. As they sing their way through the greatest girl-group hits of the 60's, one of the Wonderettes reveals she'll also be saying goodbye to search for success and happiness on her own. Act Two finds the girls back together at the class of 58 's 20-year reunion. The classic pop & rock hits of the 70's are the perfect soundtrack for these old friends to catch up on the places life has led them, all performed with their own marvelous spin! RATED PG.

FOOTLIGHT FRENZY - Directed by Nick Brennan

- A behind the scenes romp! By Ron House, Diz White, Alan Shearman & Bud Slocumb.

Performances: July 13 - July 22

In a desperate attempt to save their bankrupt "School for Unusual Children," an inexperienced PTA group valiantly mounts an ambitious benefit play, written by a has been Broadway director. His near hysterical direction and the group's questionable talent turn the production into a shambles. The scenes shift back and forth from the real tribulations of the performers to the play they are "performing", and it is hard to tell which is sillier. This is fast and furious theatrical fun of the first order, with us watching the fun from the "back" of the stage!  RATED PG.

- An irreverent, hysterical, and provocative 90 minutes in the theatre. By David Javerbaum.

Performances: July 27 - August 5

The One with the first and last word on everything has finally arrived to set the record straight. After many millennia, and in just 90 minutes, God (assisted by His devoted angels) answers some of the deepest questions that have plagued mankind since Creation, and gifts his mortals with an entirely new set of Ten Commandments in a sinfully funny whirlwind of comedy heaven! Written by 13-time Emmy Award winner David Javerbaum, this exceptional comedy delivers a new meaning to the phrase, “divine intervention!”  RATED PG-13.
