Summer is the season for enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures in the beautiful Susquehanna River Valley...What better way than to join with family and friends in your local park for a fun evening of great music and fellowship. Bring your lawn chairs, some summery snacks and drinks, and get ready for some toe-tapping summer fun.

Central Oak Heights Summer Performing Arts Series

Lewisburg Music in the Park

The Lewisburg Arts Council is pleased to announce the 23rd season of the summer concert series Music in the Park. The 2019 season begins on June 12 this year and will run 12 weeks through August 28 – plus a bonus Saturday music festival in August!  All Wednesday concerts will begin at 7:00 pm in Hufnagle Park (Market Street, between 5th and 6th Streets) in downtown Lewisburg and are free. Come early, bring your blanket or chairs, and enjoy a wonderful summer evening!

In the event of rain concerts will be held at the Lewisburg Hotel, 136 Market Street. Concerts marked with an * will be held at Beaver Memorial Methodist Church, 42 S. Third Street. Rain information will be announced on the Arts Council’s Facebook page and on local radio.

DeSoto Amphitheater for the Performing Arts Performances under the stars…

The DeSoto Amphitheater for the Performing Arts is an expression of the Ned Smith Center’s mission to merge the worlds of nature and the arts. At the DeSoto Amphitheater, the arts have a home surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Ned Smith Center lands. Please join us as we celebrate the exciting 2019 season at this beautiful venue!

Doors open at 6 p.m., performances begin at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Tickets for most shows are $15 per person, unless otherwise noted.

Please bring your favorite outdoor seating. We also allow picnics and BYOB. Our friends at Max’s Grille and Sportsbar will be selling food at most shows.

Pennsylvania Regional Ballet
Join the Ned Smith Center’s cultural partner, Pennsylvania Regional Ballet, at our DeSoto Amphitheater season opener. Pennsylvania Regional Ballet will perform a showcase of selected pieces in varying dance styles.

Saturday, June 8 –
Parrot Beach
The “hardest working full time Buffett Band on the circuit today.” If you like Jimmy Buffett and Island Music, if you like to dance, you have to come. Parrot Beach is sure to make you feel like you are sipping a drink in Margaritaville. ADMISSION: $20 per person


Saturday, June 22 –
After Hours Big Band
After Hours Big Band is a 17 pc. swing orchestra playing anything from the traditional big band arrangements of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Les Brown to the modern era sounds of big band artists such as Maynard Ferguson and Brian Setzer.

 

Saturday, July 13 – No Last Call & Cruise Control
Cruise Control offers the best live music ensembles in south central PA, performing rock, pop and jazz.

 

Friday and Saturday, July 19 & 20 – Shakespeare in the Woods: Julius Caesar
“Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears…”  One of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, Julius Caesar depicts the political conspiracy that leads to the assassination of one of the most powerful and successful leaders of the Roman Empire and the aftermath of this chilling historical event. Recommended for ages 12 and up, the production is extremely accessible, employing Gamut’s unique educational outreach style combining Shakespeare’s original text with modern “narrations” of the most famous scenes from the play for an easy-to-understand story.

 

Saturday, August 3 – JJ Rupp Band
The JJ Rupp Band is captivating audiences up and down the East Coast with its heart felt, grass-roots approach to Rock & Roll. Additionally, this great band is as diverse as most any other touring band, taking selections by Lorde, Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars, and making them “their own”.

Friday, August 9 – SHOTGUNN!
Shotgunn plays rock and funk hits from the ’60s and ’70s, anything from Chicago, and Blood Sweat and Tears to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jefferson Airplane.

TIME – The Improved Milton Experience will hold its annual Music in the Park Series at Lincoln Park, by the river in the heart of downtown Milton, every Thurs. evening 6:30-8:00 PM. Food and drinks will be on sale.

Sunbury Movies on the River

Come out to the Sunbury Riverfront Park for a night of family fun with our Movies on the River summer series. The craft fair, activities and food concessions start at 6pm.  The movies start at dusk.  Be sure to bring your chairs and blankets and join us along the Susquehanna river for a fun movie night! All performances are weather permitting

Music in the Park will be held the third Wednesday of each month at Watsontown Canal Boat Pavilion. 6:00-8:00 PM A food truck will be available for dinner!
