2018-19 Susquehanna Valley Chorale Concert Season

Live Music

October 20, 2018 to May 11, 2019

The Susquehanna Valley Chorale (SVC) is pleased to announce its 2018-19 concert season of four performances, two of which feature the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale.

The season will begin on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21 with Haydn’s Creation at Zion Lutheran Church in Sunbury. Without excluding his numerous string quartets, Joseph Haydn is best known for his oratorio, The Creation. Considered by many to be his masterpiece, this work features a soprano, tenor, and bass soloist, and depicts the creation of the world as described in the book of Genesis.

The SVC will once again continue its popular holiday performance, Candlelight Christmas, on Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sunbury. Candlelight Christmas, with special guest the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale, follows the 100-year-old tradition of Nine Lessons and Carols, originated at Kings College, Cambridge. This concert was a sold out/standing room only success this past December.

In spring 2019, the SVC will present The Peacemakers with the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale on Sunday, March 17 at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. This unique spring concert highlights acclaimed contemporary British composer Karl Jenkins.  This is a work extolling peace with texts by iconic figures that have shaped history and who were messengers of peace: Mahatma Ghandhi, Nelson Mandela, The Dali Lama, Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther King, and Anne Frank among others.

As always, the final performance of the season will be the SVC’s Pops Concert and will feature the music of Irving Berlin on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at Weber Auditorium, Susquehanna University, in Selinsgrove. Irving Berlin has been called the Great American Songwriter.

A season subscription costs $70 and consists of four “freestyle” tickets that can be used at any SVC concert in any combination. Individual tickets range from $20-22 depending on the performance and $8 for a student ticket for all performances. Youth under the age of 12 are always free.
