Reading with Reptiles
Verdi
by Janell Cannon

Young Verdi doesn’t want to grow up big and green. He likes his bright yellow skin and sporty stripes. Besides, all the green snakes he meets are lazy, boring, and rude.

When Verdi finds a pale green stripe stretching along his whole body, he tries every trick he can think of to get rid of it--and ends up in a heap of trouble. Despite his efforts, Verdi turns green, but to his delight, he discovers that being green doesn’t mean he has to stop being himself.

Animal encounter: Get an up-close look at our own green tree python, just like Verdi! We will also have another python available for a touch opportunity.

An Alligator Ate My Brother
by Mary Olson

It’s just an ordinary evening when Paul hears a loud thump coming from the playroom. He runs to check on his little brother and finds an alligator has climbed through the window!

Animal encounter: See a baby American alligator up-close, and pet one of our juvenile gators! (Don’t worry, they don’t eat brothers.)
