Schooling on the Susquehanna: A Floating Classroom Series for Families and Other River Explorers

  • $5 Per Person, All Ages
  • 9 - 10 a.m.
  • Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper and partners once a month for a fun and educational learning experience aboard the Hiawatha. These morning cruises are for all ages and cover a range of topics from wildlife to healthy water!
  • Middle Susquehanna RIVERKEEPER® is the licensed voice of the Susquehanna River defined by the North and West Branches, tributaries, and drainage area. As 1 of over 340 waterkeepers around the world on 6 continents and in 42 countries, her full-time work for a swimmable, drinkable, fishable Susquehanna River is supported by Middle Susquehanna RIVERKEEPER® Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Sunbury.

Tuesday, May 15: Clean Water’s for the Birds!
Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper and partner Lycoming Audubon for a one-hour, hands-on floating classroom program about birds in the Susquehanna River watershed and their need for clean, healthy water. For families, amateur naturalists, and other explorers.

Tuesday, June 12: Pennsylvania’s Giant Salamander-The Hellbender
Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper and partner Lycoming College Clean Water Institute for a one-hour, hands-on floating classroom program about an unusual amphibian found in select tributaries of the Susquehanna River watershed and their need for clean, healthy water for survival. For families, amateur naturalists, and other explorers.

Tuesday, July 10: Healthy Tributaries for a Healthy River
Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper and partners Lycoming College and Lycoming County Conservation District for a one-hour, hands-on floating classroom program about water quality in the Susquehanna River watershed. Participants are asked to bring a water sample from their local stream or creek for water testing. For families, amateur naturalists, and other explorers. This event is an official Pennsylvania River of the Year program, where we are celebrating the Loyalsock Creek as one of the major tributaries to the Susquehanna River.

Tuesday, August 14: Mapping the Mighty Susquehanna
Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper for a one-hour, hands-on floating classroom program about mapping the Susquehanna River watershed above and below water level. For families, amateur cartographers, and other explorers.

Tuesday, September 11: Capturing River Memories with Art
Join Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper for a one-hour, hands-on floating classroom program where we will create art using the Susquehanna River watershed as the subject. All materials will be supplied. For families, amateur artists, and creative souls.
