The Bloomsburg Children’s Museum, 2 West Seventh Street is pleased to announce its programs for August 2018.

Friday, August 3, 8-10 p.m.
First Friday

The museum will open until 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month! Special activities for the whole family.

African Diaspora

Come learn about the Kenyan culture.
Saturday, August 4, 10 a.m.-12 noon
Touch A Truck

Join us at the museum for a fun filled day with trucks of all kinds. Get an up-close, hands-on look at snowmobiles, campers, tractors, fire engines and much more. Reduced admission, only $5.

MAKE LAB: Intro to Laser Cutting

Meet our new laser cutter and find out how it works! Try this hands-on Maker Space project series, held every other Thursday June 28–Aug. 9, most for ages 6-12. Children 8+ can work independently, ages 7 and under should be guided by a parent. Spaces are limited. Call the museum to RSVP and save a seat. Walk-ins are first come, first served. Ages 6+. Cost: Museum admission plus $5 material fee.

Box of Light Teen Camp: Stop Motion Animation

Are you a fan of Kubo and the Two Strings, The Nightmare Before Christmas or Wallace and Gromit? This camp will teach students ages 12-16 to make their own stop motion masterpiece. We’ll work with clay, paper, Legos® and anything else we can get our hands on in this active camp. You will learn how to not only create smooth movement on screen but how to shape your film for comedy or drama, how (and why) to use sound effects to punctuate your film and how to move your film through the process of conception, creation and presentation. Animators, your film career starts here! Facilitated by Box of Light Director Rand Whipple. Contact museum to register. $110 per student. Need-based scholarships available.

Music Together Preview Class 

A fun, family music program for parents and children. Ages birth to Kindergarten. Children participate at his or her own level. Make music an exciting part of your child’s life.  Free with regular admission. To RSVP

Saturday, August 18, 1-2 p.m.
Molly’s Boys Jug Band, Interactive concert

Come to a fun afternoon full of music! Every audience member is encouraged to participate with the band in a large “jam session” in the museum. David Driskell, Allen Combs and Gerry Cavaliere will describe how to make your own home-made instruments for play at home! This event is free with admission!
Saturday, August 18, 11 a.m.-12 noon
Smash Art Party

Join us in the museum garden to make a one of a kind canvas creation using everything but a brush. Spaces are limited RSVP by contacting the museum to reserve your spot.
Monday, August 20, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Makey Makey Workshop

Learn how to teach invention literacy, making and design thinking, using the award winning  Makey Makey invention kit used in 50 states and around the world. This workshop is perfect for K12 classroom teachers as well as afterschool, homeschool and community organizations that service youth.  Lunch will be provided.

Two Dollar Tuesday

Third Tuesday of the month, $2 admission all day! The Exchange will host hands-on Art Cart projects 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization with a mission to enrich the lives of people in the 10-county region by fostering a lifelong love of learning through interactive programs and exhibits that bring out the imagination in every child and the child in every visitor.
