Dale-Engle-Walker House

The Dale-Engle-Walker House – witness to local, state and national history since its construction c.1793 – will open for tours on Sunday, Sept. 22, 1 - 4 pm. Please plan to stop by and learn how this property's history reflected the economic, agricultural and political evolution of our region, state and nation. New to the site is a reconstructed c. 1789 log cabin, exemplifying the cabin that had been on the property prior to construction of the limestone house. Tours include an exhibit on the Pennsylvania House Furniture Company. Established in 1887 by Horace Cawley, the company experienced many ups and downs, under various owners until becoming a nationally-known fine furniture and cabinet maker. Competition and take-overs led to its demise, and despite local and state efforts, the factory in Lewisburg was closed in 2004 and the buildings demolished. Admission to the historic house and the exhibit is free; donations gratefully accepted.
