Historical Susquehanna River Tours

Lake Augusta Outfitters (LAO) is offering two different historical tours on the Susquehanna River this summer.  They are being presented by Dr. Katherine Faull and John Moore.  "We've had historical tours with both of our presenter in years past" states Angela Troutman, owner of Lake Augusta Outfitters.  She continues, "However, this is the first summer both presenter are available and you can choose either one, or both!"

Local Historian, Author, Freelance Writer and Storyteller, John Moore, will be presenting Historical True Stories of Early Life Along the Susquehanna River.  John will talk about which Indian Tribes lived here at the confluence of the Susquehanna River, how they lived, where they came from and where they went; how the Pennsylvania soldiers came up the Susquehanna and built Fort Augusta; life and trade along the River after the Indians were eradicated; the first bridges and stage coaches; and the life of Joseph Priestley.  These historical tours are being held on the following Thursdays:  June 28, July 12, July 26, August 9, August 23, and Sept 6 from 6:30pm to 8pm.  Tickets for the Historical Tours are $28 per person.

Professor of German and Humanities at Bucknell University, Dr. Katherine Faull, will be presenting History of Chief Shikellamy and Our First Local Settlers. Dr. Faull will discuss accounts of Native American life and the legacy of Chief Shikellamy, along with stories of Moravian missionaries who settled here in the 1700s.  The price per ticket for the Historical tour is $28. These tours will be held on the following Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 8pm: June 18, July 9, July 16, July 30, August 6 and August 13. 

Also available again this year are the Pontoon Boat River Tours to see the Penn DOT bridge construction site on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.  LAO is offering these tours every Monday through Friday at 10am, 1pm and 5pm through the month of June and again in late August and early September.  Evening tours will also be scheduled as needed.  The cost for this hour long ride is $15 per person.  

Seating for all tours is limited. Advance reservations are required by calling LAO at 570-286-2148.

LAO is open seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day offering pontoon boat, Jet Ski, canoe, kayak and bike rentals; on-water ethanol-free gasoline sales and towing service to distressed watercrafts; along with a retail store selling ice cream, snacks, drinks, bagged ice and boating and fishing supplies.  For more information on LAO visit them at www.lakeaugustaoutfitters.com, like them on face book or call them at 570-286-2148.
