Samuel Kolmen to Display His Art at Packwood
May 12, 2012 – May 19, 2012
Samuel Kolmen will present his art to the area during his exhibit at the Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg, PA, May 12-19, with the opening reception on Saturday, May 12, from 6-8pm.
Originally from Texas, where he graduated from the University of Texas with a Ph.D. in physiology, Dr. Kolmen taught physiology at the college level and had a distinguished career as a mammalian physiologist, medical educator, researcher, and administrator. He took up painting as a hobby after the family moved to Philadelphia in 1984. He studied art at the Main Line Center for the Arts and the Wayne Center for the Arts. The family moved to Pittsburgh in 1989 because of Sam's job at the Mercy Medical Center there. Dr. Kolmen retired from his profession and began to devote more time to his artistic endeavors. He began exhibiting his paintings in 2003 and has appeared in many art shows ever since. Kolmen works in acrylics, primarily in abstract and nonrepresentational forms. He is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh; the AAP awarded him its people's Choice Award in 1999. The Kolmens retired to Lewisburg in 2010 to be near their children and grandchildren. This is his first major exhibit in central Pennsylvania.
Packwood House Museum is open to the public Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10am-5pm, with guided tours of the museum available at 11am, 1pm, and 3:30pm. All art exhibits are open to the public without charge.
