2012 Packwood House Museum Summer Programs for Kids

June 19, 2012 – August 21, 2012

Thanks to grants from the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Packwood House Museum is pleased to announce its 2012 Summer Programs for Kids series. Each program (with the exception of August 7) begins at 10:30am on Tuesday mornings at the museum's Tour Center located at 15 North Water Street in Lewisburg. All programs are free, but space is limited and the museum requests that parents phone the museum at 570-524-0323 to make reservations. The museum will provide all supplies; light refreshments will also be available.

June 19, Kids and Krafts and Snacks Oh My!

Bloomsburg University interns Marissa Weinger and Rachel Etzweiler, assisted by museum volunteer Chelsea Rogers, will host a crafts workshop for children age 6 and up. Crafts include making your own chalkboard, kaleidoscope, and rain stick.

June 26, Songs and Stories of Old Canal Days

Back by popular demand, Matthew Dodd appears as a canal boat captain regaling the audience of all ages with songs and stories about canal life in the early nineteenth century.

July 10, Edith's Pet Rooster Alfie: A Fun Fusible Appliqué Class

This class, for kids 8 and up, teaches the fun art of fusible appliqué, made in the shape of Edith Fetherston's pet rooster. Susan Ball Faeder will host this class and instruct the students.

July 17, Nineteenth Century Magic Show

Marlin Troutman is back again with his popular magic show from the mid-nineteenth century, with some new tricks along with old reliable standards. For kids of all ages, with some audience participation.

July 24, Folktales

Welsh-born Fiona Powell, dressed as a weaver, will delight kids of all ages with her folk tales from around the world.

July 31, Potholder Making for Kids

Join Margie Nugent and learn how to make potholders you can take along home. Ages 6 and up.

August 7, TBA

This program will take place at the Donald Heiter Community Center on North Fifth Street. Details will be announced later.

August 14, Working with Colored Pencils

Noted artist Barbara Baker will teach kids ages 8-12 how to create an illustration for a favorite book, story, poem, that they've read and wished they could draw an illustration.

August 21, Getting Into Shapes

Staff from the Sunbury YMCA Arts Center will teach kids 6 and up how to make fun paper people utilizing a variety of colors and shapes of paper.
